Amazon has become the latest company to see its data leak onto the internet – as it told some customers their passwords might have been compromised.

The company has yet to confirm details of the breach – but it told some customers via email that their passwords might have been stored or transmitted insecurely.

There have been no reports of leaked passwords being used in thefts so far, according to Boy Genius Report.

The company has ‘force reset’ the passwords of affected customers.

Amazon said via email, ‘[Amazon] recently discovered that your password may have been improperly stored on your device or transmitted to Amazon in a way that could potentially expose it to a third party.

‘We have corrected the issue to prevent this exposure.’

As with any data breach, it may be worth ensuring that your Amazon password is not reused on any other online accounts, particularly if you HAVE had your password reset by Amazon.
