Mystic — Mystic Seaport shipwrights Jamie Kirschner, Chris Taylor and Matt Barnes installed the "shutter" or "whiskey" plank on the hull of the steamship Sabino at the H.B. duPont Preservation Shipyard Tuesday.

The shutter plank is the last plank installed on a hull, shuttering it, and is also called the whisky plank because tradition dictates it be sprinkled with whisky for luck. Sabino's planks along the aft hull were removed to allow work on frames and other internal structures.

The Sabino, built in 1908 in East Boothbay, Maine, is the last surviving coal-fired steamboat in regular operation today and is designated a National Historic Landmark vessel. Sabino is expected to return to service offering cruises on the Mystic River for the summer of 2016.
