Nestled along the Oregon Coast between Yachats and Florence, Cape Perpetua exemplifies land sea connections and protections through many stories. One such story comes through the threatened seabird the Marbled Murrelet, whose greatest stronghold in the state lies within these waters and forests. The nearshore waters of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Protected Areas provides newly protected foraging habitat for this species while on the land, old-growth forest, in Siuslaw National forest and multiple adjacent wilderness areas provide critical nesting habitat. Innovative management and protections connecting land and sea give this bird and many other species a fighting chance for survival.
