Massive power outage since 5:30am in several parts of Bengaluru on Tuesday ensured that the city remained disconnected from rest of the country, as internet connectivity and telecom services were disrupted in the IT capital of the nation.

The Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) officials remained incommunicado to the citizens, who are suffering from the unscheduled power cuts. Though the government had announced 2-3 hours of power cuts every day owing to poor generation of electricity this year, 5-6 hours of power cuts have become common these days.

Office-goers are the worst hit, as torrential rains are lashing the city since the last two days. A heavy downpour on Monday night resulted in uprooting of trees and flooding of low-lying areas. Power cables were also snapped because of heavy rains.

On Tuesday, west and south Bengaluru parts plunged into darkness, as power was disconnected around 5:30am. Power supply was not restored even till 10:30 am.

A majority of the IT parks and industrial clusters are running on backup power. However, many mobile towers and internet service providers, who rely on 24/7 power supply from the state grid, reported disruption of services.
