This morning, I received a notification that someone had posted a very negative review on my Facebook page. I couldn't imagine why, and I didn't recognize the name associated with the review. I glanced at it with my phone, and I intended to get a better look at it soon after, but the poster deleted it first.

What I did see in those brief moments was that it was some guy in an Asian rim country who had done business with a company with a similar name. He had a bad experience and wanted others to avoid the company. So, he did a search, my company had a very similar name and it showed up.

He immediately posted his negative review. I guess he went back a little later to put second post with a link to the other company. He must have spent a little time on my page at that point and realized he had the wrong company. He sent me a note, acknowledging his mistake, and deleted what he had posted.

If he hadn't been returning to the site, it would have stayed on there until I saw it. Fortunately, I post to the same page daily, so I would have seen it soon enough, but how many other people would have also seen it? They wouldn't know that this guy never did business with me.

Take a few minutes each day to run through your social media presence to make sure something similar doesn't happen to you. It might save you some grief along the way.

Good advice!  I have an agent not too far away with the same exact name.  We get confused quite a bit.  Luckily we are both ethical agents but imagine if she wasn't?  that would be a nightmare!

Happy to hear it was easily resolved. Kind guy to admit the mistake too. That's not always the case. Good advice this morning, Mike.

We had a similar experience recently on our company Facebook page. Our admin was horrified! We were unable to remove it so posted reviews to bury it and sent Facebook admin a request.

Hi Mike, this is great advice! We can't stop crazy people from doing what they do, it's best to check our pages on a regular basis.
I had the same experience couple of months ago on my FB Business page, comments on my AR blogs and YouTube.

Mike Cooper It seems like a great deal of work to monitor a site that has resulted in a Zero Sum Gain for us, yet any negative could be worse. Great post!

Ugh - that's terrible! I hardly ever go to my Facebook page - and wouldn't even know where to look to find the reviews.

Hi Mike - For me, motivation to check in on Facebook frequently is hard to come by, but you make a good case for doing it.

Good idea!  Also, in this contentious political campaign season, it can be exhausting reading all the often false and disceptive propaganda being posted. Over the weekend, I began to "Unfollow" some of my Facebook friends, to keep a little sanity.  "Unfollowing" is not the same as "Unfriending."  You keep the as friends, but their postings don't clutter up your newsfeed.

Good thing the poster handled it the way they did! You're right, we should be checking for bad reviews on a regular basis.
