The Next Witcher 3 Patch Will Eat Up 15 GB Of Your Console's Hard Drive

by Brian Shea on Oct 08, 2015 at 09:49 AM

The Witcher 3 is a notoriously large game in terms of things to do, but its base game currently weighs in at a relatively modest 31 GB on consoles. The upcoming patch, which fixes hundreds of minor things across several parts of the game, will arrive on consoles at nearly half the size of the original game.

According to a substantial patch notes PDF from CD Projekt Red, the 15 GB patch 1.10 will make the Witcher 3 a smoother experience overall. The patch will also fix a large number of known bugs in the game and add new conversation segments with Triss, Ciri, and Yennefer including requested romance options.

Marcin Momot, community lead at CD Projekt Red, says that the patch will still be rather large on PC, but potentially smaller than what the console players will need to download.

Our Take
We figured that patches for this massive game would take up a lot of space, but 15 GB for a single patch is a little steep. With most console owners only have a 500 GB hard drive to store all of their games, the Witcher 3 is becoming a massive investment in that regard. Despite its hard drive-hogging tendencies, the Witcher 3 remains a stellar experience that ranks among the best of 2015.
