27 Miles of Electric Range according to Hyundai for 2016 Sonata

At this point, chalk up another entrant into the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) category and this one is from Hyundai. According to reports, the Hyundai Sonata car has a 27 mile Electric Range before switching over to Hybrid mode. That is very good EV mileage for sure and only two other PHEVs will go further than that one Electric power.

The highest range PHEV is the BMW-I3 but only the ones with the optional Range Extender. With the Range Extender, you are looking at about a little over 70 miles of EV range and about the same Miles in gas mode with the range extender turned on.

The other car with more EV range is the Chevy Volt. The new 2016 model will have over 53 miles of EV range making it second behind the I3 in terms of PHEV-EV range.

The good news is that all Hyundai Dealers will have access to the car, but we will have to wait and see which dealers choose to stock the car. In certain markets, the PHEV may not make it into the showrooms but you should be able to place an order if your dealer chooses not to stock them.

The body styling is new and improved over the previous 6 generations that preceded this one. As usual, we are not being told what the car will cost but when more details come forth we will be sure to post the details here on Torque News.

Thank you Douglas for this update as to the Sonata gasoline hybrid EV-only range. One of the frustrations that I encountered with the Honda Accord and Acura RLX Hybrid is the very limited electric-only range. Honda points to the size of the battery module. Can you share with me the size and capacity of the Sonata module? Thanks.
