Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

When Christopher Robin asks Pooh what he likes doing best in the world, Pooh says, after much thought, "What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying 'What about a little something?' and Me saying, 'Well, I shouldn't mind a little something, should you, Piglet,' and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing."

Happy readers for over 70 years couldn't agree more. Pooh's status as a "Bear of Very Little Brain" belies his profoundly eternal wisdom in the ways of the world. To many, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and the others are as familiar and important as their own family members. A.A. Milne's classics, Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, are brought together in this beautiful edition, complete and unabridged, with recolored illustrations by Milne's creative counterpart, Ernest H. Shepard. Join Pooh and the gang as they meet a Heffalump, help get Pooh unstuck from Rabbit's doorway, (re)build a house for Eeyore, and try to unbounce Tigger. A childhood is simply not complete without full participation in all of Pooh's adventures. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter

About the Author

A. A. Milne was born in England in 1882, the third and youngest son of London schoolteachers. As a boy he wrote verses, parodies, and short humorous pieces for his school’s paper. He went on to study at Cambridge.

In 1903 he left school to write. Before long he was supporting himself on his earnings, and became an editor at
Punch magazine. In 1913 he married Dorothy de Selincourt. He began his military service in 1915 in Europe. During this time he wrote three plays, all of which were produced on the London stage.

Christopher Robin Milne was born in 1920. It was Christopher’s toy bear, pig, donkey, tiger, and kangaroo that became the inspiration for the famous Pooh books.

A. A. Milne wrote more plays, a novel, his autobiography, and political nonfiction, although he is best remembered for
Winnie-the-Pooh, The House at Pooh Corner, When We Were Very Young, and Now We Are Six. Milne died in 1956.

Ernest H. Shepard was born in 1879 in London. His mother, who died when Ernest was ten, encouraged her son to paint and draw, and there was never any doubt that Ernest would be an artist. He was later awarded medals for his work and was named a Landseer Scholar. In 1901 his first picture exhibited in the Royal Academy.

In 1903 he married Florence Chaplin. The Shepards had two children—Graham, who was killed in World War II, and Mary, who later illustrated the Mary Poppins books. Shepard served in Europe during the war. Afterward he joined the editorial board at Punch, where he met A. A. Milne.

Shepard’s drawings appear in many books for adults and children. Among them is Kenneth Grahame’s
The Wind in the Willows. Shepard died in 1976.

Review for physical book (not the writing or story)
The first book came damaged. It wasn't well packaged and was loose in a box. The second one came in better shape. Both had black marks on the dust jacket but those wash off easily.

The Complete Tales of Winnie-The-Pooh is a charming and heartwarming collection of stories that will transport readers of all ages to the whimsical world of the Hundred Acre Wood. Written by A.A. Milne and illustrated by E.H. Shepard, this classic book has captured the hearts of generations since its first publication in 1926.

The collection includes ten stories featuring the beloved characters of Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, and more. Each story is filled with delightful adventures, endearing friendships, and valuable life lessons. From searching for honey to hosting a party, the stories are simple yet captivating, making it a perfect read for children and adults alike.

What makes this book truly special is the beautiful bond between the characters. The friendship between Pooh and his friends is heartwarming and teaches readers the importance of kindness, loyalty, and acceptance. As Pooh would say, 'A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.'

Winnie the Pooh The Complete Tales is a great read. The book is loaded with a lot of color illustrations. Like other children’s books with wonderful artwork, such as Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales, Dinotopia, Watership Down, and The Wind In The Willows, the color illustrations really enhance the storytelling.

I’ve been rereading some of my favorite children’s stories that I read during my preteen and teen years. As a middle-aged guy I enjoyed revisiting Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales, Charlotte’s Web, Winnie the Pooh The Complete Tales, Treasure Island, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, Watership Down and The Wind in the Willows as much, maybe even more, than I did as a kid. All classics.

I’d shelve Dinotopia and the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, with this group of classic children’s stories too.

Normally I’m a sampler. I haven’t seen any of the movies from the following series, but I did read the first books, Twilight, Outlander, Fifty Shades of Grey, Divergent, etc. I sample a lot of first books, but I don’t read many complete series. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, and The Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series by George Martin are a couple of exceptions.

Other sci-fi and fantasy authors I like include Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, Paolo Bacigalupi, Jack Campbell, Arthur C. Clarke, Earnest Cline, Abe Evergreen, Robert A. Heinlein, Hugh Howey, Larry Niven, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir.

I come from a generation when books were your best friend and could take you around the world and to different times and places, even fantastical ones. When my 5 year old Grandson first opened this Cristams present, right after opening his "Game boy" his first question was, "What does it do Grandpa?" His parents have consistantly gone to the electronic toy since he was very little. My response was, "It will take you to all sorts of places with the friends of a small boy named Christopher Robin." And then I began to read to him. Soon the game boy was put away in it's protective case and we were hanging in the air with Pooh, semi-disguised as a little black rain cloud...and just as the bees were getting suspicious it was breakfast time... Now whenever we visit, I'm asked to read the next story in the book.

It's a beautifully illustrated book and the language is slightly "Anglicized" in the sense that the sentence structure is just a bit different that "American English." For me it adds to the unique quality of the book where a small boy can have a stuffed toy that talks and hankers after honey. Each story is not overly long, perhaps about 20 - 30 pages and can be read in 1 or 2 sittings which creates a wonderful anticipation for my grandson. His imagination soars ahead trying to figure out how Pooh will manage to get the honey he so desperately wants...

I would recommend this book to anyone who has a child (age 4 and up)...especially a child hooked on technology.

This book is such a beautifully wrapped and illustrated book! It is esthetically pleasing but even better are the jolly stories which line its pages. My girls laugh even still as I read them the odd story from this book. My oldest girls are 12 and yet somehow there is humor in these stories even for the older ones.

This is a keepsake that I hope I will be able to pass on to my grandkids someday! It's size and the pretty blue hardcover make it a shelf decoration as well.

Can't say enough good about it!

This is a beautiful book with thick pages and small colour illustrations on every page and a few pages with full page colour illustrations...the binding is also good...as for the story...it is a classic in complete and unabridged form
But keep in mind that this edition has the first two books-winnie the pooh and house at pooh corner...it does not contain the poems of the other two books in the series
