Save the Palco Marsh Dogs

Donation protected
The people who are homeless in the Palco Marsh and their dogs need our help.

The Other Side of the Fence is raising funds to go toward the rabies vaccines and city licenses for at least 70 dogs.

The EPD will be taking all dogs not licensed and local media sources are already trying to rehome people's pets! The people with nowhere else to go already have enough problems as they are fighting just to be and a deadline of May 2nd  is looming near.

Why would anyone want to take these happy dogs away from their owners and euthanize them (as the police are saying) or euthanize dogs that are in the shelter to make room for these people's dogs (which is more likely)?

Who are we to judge whether a person should own a dog because they are experiencing homelessness?
These dogs get so much exercise, socialization, companionship. They are service animals for the elderly and persons with disabilities, protectors for single women, alert dogs for vulnerable people sleeping outside with no protection, family to those without one...

If the City wants to wage war against the homeless, can we please leave the innocent lives of the dogs out of it? This is clearly class discrimination. The police are not threatening people who are not experiencing homelessness and no one is going door to door threatening euthanasia of pets. There are pet owners all through the county that do not have their dogs licensed.
Who would kill a dog just to scare a person? Or just to keep a person sleeping outside from owning them (can anyone else see the irony in this?) ?

~Each neutered dog will cost $15 to license.
~Each intact dog will cost $50 to license.
~Rabies shots on 4/3 provided by Buddy and Angels.
~Rabies shots after 4/3 we will provide through our vet clinic for $6 each.

NOTE: The Palco Marsh is not the only location in need of homeless services. There are dog owners experiencing homelessness all across the county at risk of losing their pet because they cannot afford the licensing fees. This fund will help as many dogs with homeless owners as possible.

Thank you community! Especially thanks to the other individuals and nonprofits. Especially AHHA, Buddy and Angels, Redwood Pals Rescue, Humboldt Spay and Neuter Network, & The Other Side of the Fence to name a few grass roots organizations working hard to ensure that people's pets are not taken from them just because they are experiencing homelessness.

THANK YOU BUDDY AND ANGELS for providing lots of vaccinations on 4/3! You rock!

Humboldt Spay and Neuter Network is also offering assistance for sterilization.  Although we would like everyone to neuter their pets, we feel this is a moment when we must put aside our own personal beliefs and understand we must prevent the city from using these animals' lives for their own agenda.

PS. I did not misspell Humboldt in the link, I just did not notice I ran out of characters before saving it and cannot change it. ;)
