'Chef's Table'to Return To Netflix In May

'Chef's Table' will return in May for three more seasons

In the first season of Chef's Table, filmmaker David Gelb took Netflix viewers deep into the woods of Sweden with Magnus Nilsson and to far reaches of Patagonia with Francis Mallmann. Now, Gelb tells Eater that the show will return for three more seasons with episodes focused on 16 chefs in New York, South Korea, Brazil and beyond.

The second season, which will drop just before Memorial Day weekend on May 27, features Brazil's Alex Atala (who took the filming crew into the Amazon), celebrated Mexico City and NYC chef Enrique Olvera, Grant Achatz who you might know from a little Chicago restaurant called Alinea, Thailand's Gaggan Anand, Slovenia's Ana Ros and Bay Area French darling Dominique Crenn.

Come fall, a "mini" season will be released with four episodes that are dedicated to France and chefs like Alain Passard. Why France? "It's such an important place in the world for cuisine, so much of where the basis of modern cuisine comes from . . . We wanted to represent different eras in French history," Gelb explains.

Finally, the fourth season will come out in 2017 with familiar names like Nancy Silverton and a few who are relatively unknown to American audiences, like Jeong Kwan, a Zen Buddhist nun living in South Korea.

Like the first season, the show will operate without a host, so expect episodes to vary widely based upon whose story its telling. Gelb explains, "The hardest thing is to choose the chefs . . . choosing chefs that are at the absolute top of their field, are dynamic story tellers, have interesting stories in their personal lives."
