My gf & I are headed to Portland, or. for the first time to celebrate my 34th... looking to stay in a cool/ hip/fun neighborhood that has much to offer and ideally would be pretty walkable. Willing to spend but nothing toooo crazy! Any recommendations?
My fist choice would be the Ace Hotel Portland with Clyde Commons restaurant in the lobby. Walking distance to square block of awesome food trucks and world famous Powell's Books. It's a must!
The Heathman Hotel is pretty cool, you can get some good deals for around $175-200 per night from time to time. Ace Hotel Portland is definitely the hip and young hotel that you can easily walk everywhere. Just keep in mind as the weather warms up, hotel prices go up in Portland.
I have stayed in the Embassy Suites Portland - Downtown. The building is the renovated grand hotel from the 1910's and is where Elvis stayed when he was on tour. The rooms are enormous. It is kitty corner from Voodoo Doughnuts and two blocks from the waterfront and also the light rail line which you can access the airport. It is on the the edge of the Pearl District.
Cost: around $210.

Ace Hotel Portland is a very cool place to stay. a lot of out of towners as well as locals will stay here... also within walking distance to the Pearl district. Lotsa bars and restaurants in the area as well. Stumptown Coffee Roasters is in the lobby... best coffee! Also a photobooth and ample sitting space to hang out. Each room is decorated differently... very cool spot!

I absolutely love the Inn At Northrup Station. It looks great, it's reasonably price, it has a full kitchen in many if not all rooms, it's right by a trolley stop. The kitchen really makes it. We would shop at the farmers market and load up on all these amazing ingredients - then cook all sorts of awesome stuff. Dining out in Portland is great, but cooking with fresh produce and seafood ... I just love it.
