The Top 100 Young Adult Books of All Time

Posted by Jade on September 10, 2015

It's September and to get you in the book-loving, back-to-school mood, we've gone through thousands of Young Adult books to come up with this list of the Top 100 YA Books of all time.

These aren't books that your teachers told you to read. (Though there are a few of those in here, too!) No, this list is the Top 100 YA Books as determined by you, the Goodreads members who truly love YA literature. And it's not just a popularity contest. Every single one of these books also has a rating of 4.0 or above, so whether you're a dystopia die-hard who re-reads The Hunger Games every year or a lover of contemporary tales like The Fault in their Stars, take a look at the Top 100 YA Books to be reminded of old favorites and to discover great new recommendations.

How many have you read? Take a look at the list on Listopia.

Let us know how many you've read!

Robert mainly a 10 year list with a few from previous years.
ok, that's your methodology. but you missed a good number of books, for example, King Dork!- definitely belongs.

message 2: by Eva (new)

Eva Pohler Nice selection! Can't wait to read more on this list!

message 3: by Claudia (new)

Claudia Naranjo Love the list! I have read 20 of them and I have in my library 3 more form the list waiting to be read!

message 4: by Wafa (new)

Wafa I've read 13 books and 23 books on my to-read shelf in this list .

The remainders are simply not my genre

message 5: by Malin (new)

Malin Ankardal Read 22 and a lot of the others are already on my TBR.

message 6: by Selena (last edited Sep 10, 2015 10:34PM) (new)

Selena I've read 37! Mostly the contemporary and dystopian. If the limit was under 4.0 stars, I would have included:
I Am Number Four (Pittacus Lore)
The Knife of Never Letting Go (Patrick Ness)
Before I Fall (Lauren Oliver)
Uglies (Scott Westerfield)

message 7: by Dustbin (new)

Dustbin I agree with Selena. The Knife of Never Letting Go should definitely be there and maybe Uglies. Other than that, good list. I've read 14 of them.

message 8: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Agree with Robert - mainly a recent list. Many great ones on it, but many great ones missing.

message 9: by Garth (new)

Garth Mailman 16 Read. As stated omits a lot of classics

message 10: by Jack (new)

Jack 47!

message 11: by Wendell (last edited Sep 11, 2015 05:12AM) (new)

Wendell Barnes I've read 10 but miss "Tuck Everlasting" from the list.

message 12: by Sue (new)

Sue Stepp 42

message 13: by Randi (new)

Randi I've read 50 of these!!!

message 14: by Gracie (new)

Gracie 36

message 15: by Robert (new)

Robert Burke Definitely not the Top 100 of All Time. Missing so many top books from the past 50 years. At least you are missing all the top Science Fiction writers; Asimov, Heinlein, Silverberg, etc etc. You need to redo your list.

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle 23 and a lot of the other are already on my "want to read" list.

message 17: by Karen (new)

Karen 33 (and of course all the books that follow in their trilogies and series!)

message 18: by Janet (new)

Janet I've read 16 and have 4 on my 'to read' shelf. A little surprised, but impressed that 2 Kelley Armstrong books are on this list. I love ALL of her stuff, but a lost of people don't know about her books.

message 19: by Ashly (new)

Ashly I read 10 on this list.

message 20: by Christiana (new)

Christiana I've read 51! And I know there's buzz around all of them, so it's clearly a well thought out one. Great list!

message 21: by Trisha (new)

Trisha i have read 63, but I am old, so have had plenty of years...

message 22: by Lee-ann (new)

Lee-ann Dunton I've read 27 on this list but have copies of many more that I haven't read yet or want to read!

message 23: by Abi (new)

Abi I strongly recommend The Miseducation of Cameron Post. I couldn't put it down! So much covered - death of parents, sexuality, religion, first love & sex, friendship - but none of it feels forced.

message 24: by Denisse (last edited Sep 14, 2015 07:05AM) (new)

Denisse ACOTAR is a NA, sorry.

But the rest of the list is cool :) I don't think Divergent should be so high in the ranking but THG and HP took the first spots YEI!!! :)

I have not read most of them, maybe just 20? :O

message 25: by Andrea Pamela (new)

Andrea Pamela 15! And I've still got a lot of to-read books on the list! Just keep reading!

message 26: by Jenn (new)

Jenn I'm happy to see Kelley Armstrong in this list, but nothing by L.J.Smith, author of Vampire Diaries and the Secret Circle which sparked TV shows. Her books defined my teen years in the mid-late 90's early 2000's. I consider this list incomplete without a mention of her works including vampire diaries, secret circle, night world, dark visions, the forbidden game and others.

message 27: by Amy (new)

Amy I've read 29 of these and my average rating of those was 3.6. I love this list and the way I can see my own ratings included in it. Thank you, Goodreads!

message 28: by Susan (new)

Susan Garth wrote: "16 Read. As stated omits a lot of classics"

I agree!

message 29: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I havent read all of these, but I'm looking for boolks with minorities/POC main charactets. Do any of these books fit that category? Not including Elanor & Park as well as The Gathering

message 30: by Lex (new)

Lex I've read 38 of these so far!

message 31: by Landslide (new)

Landslide Read 5 and have 4 more to read...

Everythingat1once 14 read, and a lot on my TBR

message 33: by Teri (new)

Teri I'm a 55 year old woman and I've only read 15 of them with another 5 on my "wanting to read" list. Most of the rest I probably will never read as they aren't my favorite genres. I do love good YA books!

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Liana 23 so far, and some are on my tbr

message 35: by Jeana (new)

Jeana Budnick I'm surprised - and very happy - to see that Twilight is NOT on this list :)

message 36: by Betsy (new)

Betsy None

message 37: by Jacque (new)

Jacque I've read 19 so far and I'm currently reading another one. Several more are already on my TBR list.

message 38: by Erma (new)

Erma Talamante Read a few of these (but want to reread them)...

Alot already on my radar (or shelf!)...

And found a bunch more to add!

With lists like these, I will never run out of reading material!

message 39: by Theresa (new)

Theresa There missed a lot of good books published earlier that 20 years ago. This is more whats popular now, not best of all time.

message 40: by Celia (new)

Celia Lots of relative unknowns included to the detriment of some amazing classics to be honest.

But yay, Code Name Verity!

message 41: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Kumala just 19.. but I love this list!!

message 42: by Andrea (last edited Sep 14, 2015 09:07AM) (new)

Andrea 4 read and 7 on TBR. I highly doubt those numbers would increase as most of these are not my cup of tea.

Adrianna [SypherLily] I've read 29, but there are a lot on my TBR, and a lot I will be steering clear from :) lol

message 44: by Alison (new)

Alison Morquecho I've read 60! But there r a bunch on my tbr!

message 45: by Alison (new)

Alison Morquecho Wow lol not 60 but 30

message 46: by Cherry (new)

Cherry I've read 18 from this list, 48 are on my kindle and book shelf.

message 47: by Phoenix2 (new)

Phoenix2 so many books, so little time!!

message 48: by Gergana (new)

Gergana I've read 81, but that's because I spent...what? 2 years?...reading almost only YA. However, I've been gradually shying away from the genre since last year. It has just lost it's appeal to me.

message 49: by Iris (new)

Iris 11 so far, it's a good list. There are a lot of books that had already marked as to-read, so this is promising!

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

27! And busy in 8 others...
