The $8 ORCA pass may offer cost savings, especially for tourists.

A new ORCA regional day pass just hit the streets, a transit option that should be especially attractive to Seattle-area visitors.

An $8 day pass ($4 for seniors and riders with disabilities) allows unlimited trips where full fare is $3.50 or less — which includes Link light rail, the South Lake Union streetcar, and most bus services, but not Washington State Ferries or the Seattle Center Monorail.

Costlier rides on the Vashon or West Seattle water taxis, some Community Transit buses, and Sounder commuter-rail trips longer than Seattle to Kent require day-pass holders to make up the difference using cash, or by tapping a standard ORCA e-purse card.

Buy passes at ticket vending machines, or from retailers that normally sell ORCA cards. More information is at orcacard.com.
