Welcome to Independent Publishing Now, IBPA's monthly e-newsletter that features the hottest news and information from IBPA members.

The IBPA staff just got back from Publishing University and the Benjamin Franklin Awards in Austin, Texas and we couldn't feel more inspired! It was fantastic meeting the 280 members that attended the conference and awards program. Each attendee contributed to the conference's unmistakable vibrancy and it was a pleasure getting to know our members and their publishing journeys. You can check out photos and buzz from the conference by searching #PubU2015 on Twitter.

Author Dr. Trimble-Familetti wrote Prostitutes, Virgins and Mothers "to challenge traditional interpretations of select women of the bible – interpretations that have been used to dishonor females, discredit their importance in the community surrounding Jesus and limit their participation in religious groups today." The book has also been named a Foreword Reviews' 2014 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards Finalist in the Religion Category.

Maven House Press author Kimberly Janson.
Maven House Press author Kimberly Janson will deliver an Author Chat on May 19 at the Association for Talent Development Conference in Orlando. In her new book, Demystifying Talent Management, Janson criticizes the way talent management is practiced in today’s organizations. She notes that whether you work for a large or small business, there are many myths, gaps in knowledge or skills, and roadblocks that stand in the way of helping employees be the best they can be. This book shows leaders and managers how to deal with those challenges.

Hank Quense of Strange Worlds Publishing was recently interviewed about self-publishing by Douglas Goldstein on his show, Goldstein on Gelt on Israel Radio. Hank discussed his views of the self-publishing world, claiming that one of self-publishing's greatest strengths is its position as an equalizer that doesn't place limitations on content production. Douglas presented Hank with hard-hitting questions ranging from Amazon as a democratizer to the sustainability of print books in today's digital world. The interview can be viewed on YouTube.

Author, consultant, and publisher Mary Shafer.

Shafer's article, "It Takes A Village: Book Marketing Begins At Home," explains why it's a mistake to skip local markets when promoting a new book, and offers a five-step plan for how to do it successfully. The piece first appeared in the 2014 edition, and was brought back for its value to first-time indie publishers. Mary also regularly contributes to IBPA's Independent magazine; her archived articles can be viewed here
