Some days you give so much, you get to the point of feeling like you have nothing left to give.

Have you ever been there?

Emptiness can be such a twisted feeling.

When I get to this point, when I feel empty inside, the only thing I know to do is pray.

Yes, the best thing to do is set up margins and not allow yourself to get to this point. But it happens. You overdo on giving and fail to take time for intake.

Today I’m sharing a prayer for when I feel empty. Thought you might want it for the occasion when you’re sitting on “E.”

Because we can’t run without fuel.

A Prayer for When I Feel Empty

Dear Father,
I humbly come before you
With hollow heart and barren soul.
Wondering how life can be so full
And I can feel so empty.
I poured out all I had today…
And left no reserves of my own.
But I’m exactly where You want me to be-
Empty of self.
And now I’m asking you to make me
Full of you.
I need you to flood the dry places
And fill the vacant spaces
So that I can overflow with your love
And give again.
Amen

You are so “right on” with this! When I find myself thinking that I am or feeling empty, then, in reality, I have become too full of myself, because the more I think about it, the worse it becomes. Yes, when I am feeling empty, this is a good place to be, for then God/Holy Spirit has room to maneuver. Thanks again!

  2. I needed this today. Things have not been going well in our home with our almost four year old. I am not responding well. I am having a hard time finding time for quiet time with his hyper-vigilance, and then the whole house is awake. Not a good way either way to start my days.

  3. Thanks Rachel for posting this prayer! I really need it. Lately I’ve been really draining myself to the point where I can’t keep myself up to finish a prayer or to pick up my pen to journal. This year I got a huge urge to journal, but not the way that I thought I would. I feel that as I journal, God’s way, I find myself to be more in alignment with the Lord. The other night the Lord spoke to me as I journaled. He told me that I needed rest. He said that to take care of others, I have to take care of myself. It’s amazing how God can speak to us in so many different ways. He’s awesome in every way. If only everyone can just get to know Him. As His word says, seek me and you will find me. I’ve been on a mission to find Him, as he has met me in my darkess places and getting to know Him has been more than what I would have ever expected. Thank you again for your prayer Rachel. God bless you!

  4. What a lovely prayer. We have all felt that way at times. Prayer itself can be the thing that fills us up, bringing us closer to Him

  5. Praying for you, dear Rachel, as you ride this emptiness; knowing the Lord’s fullness is wonder unimaginable! You, Taylor, and your precious family are never far from my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for that prayer. I have been fasting for 21 days. I felt lonely and empty. My pastor said it the ememy. I need to open my heart and let the holy spirit in. Humble myself. I have two more days of this fasting. I will keep up my strength for the lord.

    1. Bless you in your calling to follow through with what God has called you to do, Christine!

Sometimes, it’s not over scheduling or controllable things that leave me empty…… Life just dumps (the old “when it rains it pours” saying comes to mind)…… Life is a raging flood right now, the timing for this post could not have been better!! Thank you!!!

  8. Rachel, tonight finds me barely able to keep my eyes open and totally exhausted mentally and physically, as empty as I ever am…thank you for this prayer! I will go to Jesus, weary and burdened, and He will give me rest…
