Weekend Reading…

Photo by Louise Dahl-Wolfe from Harper’s Bazaar, July 1939. I’ve been seriously amiss about posting, which I am very sorry about. While I am going to try to be better in the future, I am constantly posting on Instagram (@laurakitty), which also feeds directly to my Tumblr. I’ve also started writing a column on Shrimpton Couture’s Curate – all of my posts can be found here, but below are some…

Tarot Images and Icons: A 40 DAY JOURNEY THROUGH SEX, GLAMOUR AND ROCK N' ROLL

Beyond fashion, one of my main interests is studying tarot and the occult. Tarot has become, for me, a way to delve into the subconscious and learn about myself through the archetypes of the cards. This inner work has led me to co-develop a 40 day email program that matches the archetypes of the Major Arcana with icons from the worlds of music, film, art and literature. By working with these real…

Happy 68th birthday Alice Cooper! "The hippies wanted peace and love. We wanted Ferraris, blondes and switchblades." I love this song so much: "Poison" released September 5th, 1989. ☠☠☠ #alicecooper

Looking at red carpets like last weekend's SAG Awards, I always find myself wishing that actresses took more risks with their jewellery - while I understand the appeal of small, understated gems, real icons (like Elizabeth Taylor) understood the appeal of a real statement piece. My latest column for @shrimptoncouture's #Curated blog looks back at 'The Bold Jewel' an editorial photographed by Bob Stone and Richard Avedon for Vogue, November 15th, 1972. Showing here just how striking a large jewel-encrusted piece can be is Anjelica Huston: "The bold necklace—in black and white: Van Cleef & Arpels' linking of blackest onyx circles, whitest baroque pearls... each pearl caught in a setting of gold, diamonds. Cultured baroque pearl earrings... Navy-and-silver zebra-striped pants and top in viscose and silk, by Tan Giudicelli..." 💎💎💎

The living room of Thea Porter's Mayfair maisonette—photographed by Oberto Gili, 1971. Most of the furniture was imported from the Middle East by Thea while she was still an interior decorator—the peacock print used on the chairs, cushions and curtains was designed for Thea by Sandra Munro. The 9' tall silver lily lamp was Andrew Logan's first commission after graduating from art school (the mirror heart-and-arrow on the table are also by him). On the central table in the background are three headboxes by Penny Slinger. #theaporter

Can't believe that it has been twenty-one years today since Richey Edwards disappeared (he was declared presumed deceased in November 2008). "Motorcycle Emptiness" still makes my heart swoon as much as it did the first time I saw the video (filmed in Tokyo) in 1992. #manicstreetpreachers #richeyedwards
