Hello everyone! We're working on our second game as a team and this is our first dev log so hopefully I'm doing this right. Super Wiz Biz is a 2D sim / puzzle / strategy game where you are a Wizard with a shop catering to the needs of the local adventurers. You craft magical items to sell and buy the ingredients to craft more from the questing adventurers. Below are details about the game and some early screenshots from the gameplay so far.

Gameplay

You are a Wizard

- Craft magic items from your inventory of ingredients.
- Sell magical items to visiting adventurers and buy ingredients from them as they quest in the world.
- Balance the elements to produce higher quality items in the tactical crafting mini-game
- Earn experience points and level up for new skills
- Upgrade your shop with new rooms, better tools and assistants

Planned Features

- Level your Wizard from 1 to 50
- Three different races of Wizards each with their own shop, local region and starting skill
- 12 different types of magic items to craft in four broad categories (Weapon, Armour, Utility and Consumable)
- 104 different ingredients in 8 different categories (e.g. Plant, Wood, Metal, Gem etc)
- 4 different adventuring professions
- 10 different skills in 4 skill trees
- 6 different rooms to build with 4 potential upgrades each

Current Status

We're in the very early stages of development and there's probably a lot that will change before we feel we're ready to release anything.

v0.1

- Title scene and music
- Wizard HUD (gold, mana, portrait)
- The human Wizard, his shop and local city region
- Inventory and item / category picker UI
- Workshop and Crafting mini-game
- All items and item categories
- All professions
- Adventuring and quest resolution in the local region

Development

Unity and C# scripting

This week I spent a bit of time paying the technical debt on the code by refactoring some of the messier bits. We also had a mid-week brainstorm about some of the graphics / UI we were least happy with and came up with some ideas to pursue in the near future. We also picked a font for the UI!

But the biggest achievement was in getting the adventurers to go shopping after a hard day's adventuring:

The next phase of development involved support for saving / loading games plus menus for starting afresh, loading games and changing settings.

You can now also manage the Wizard's skills, allocating skill points earned and see your progress to the next level. There's 12 skills to upgrade, ten of which lead directly to crafting new and better items whilst two help get (or keep) more gold and increase your mana pool.

The not so exciting Load game:

The menu pop up:

Just some basic settings for now:

And the skills board:
