LA's turn at Modern Mexican cuisine is coming, with talented Baja California chef Diego Hernandez leading the way, according to Bill Esparza at LA Mag's Digest Blog. Hernandez, whose Valle de Guadalupe restaurant Corazon de Tierra is listed as one of the World's 50 Best in Latin America, will open +52 along West Third Street by fall.

The chef tells Esparza that the approach will be similar to the what they're doing in Baja, but with "more emphasis on the things people in L.A. associate with Mexican food." What that really means is more chiles, not necessarily nachos or burritos. According to Esparza, it's the first time that a major Mexican chef is opening a place in the city of Angels. With places like Petty Cash Taqueria, B.S. Taqueria, Broken Spanish, and Tacoteca, does this mean that Los Angeles is finally ready for some higher end Mexican cuisine that breaks the mold?
