Most of us know that “the” is the most common word in the English language. But what are some other high-frequency words, both long and short? This amazing animated data bubble visualization by Abacaba provides the answers.
As noted in the video, these results were compiled by computer scientist Peter Norvig,who used a Google Books dataset that included 97,565 distinct words. These words were used no less than 743,842,922,321 times, so they’re definitely in standard usage. Here’s a chart showing the most common words used in the English language.
