It’s More Fun in the Philippines for a First-time Traveler

The Philippines’ tourism department recently launched the new campaign, “It’s more fun in the Philippines.”

To this, I totally agree. There are 7,107 reasons why it is more fun to be in this part of the world than anywhere else. It’s even a lot more fun for a first-time traveler to see the wonders the Philippines has in store for its visitors. I’ll give you seven good reasons.

1. The People. Filipinos are a fun-loving bunch. We see a glimmer a hope in the midst of adversity. We are known to be hospitable people because we go out of our way to make a visitor feel at home and comfortable. You’ll find a smile from a stranger or a wave from a child walking at the countryside. I think our knowledge of the English language is also an advantage because it is easier to communicate between locals and foreigners.

2. The Amazing Underwater World. Thousands of marine species are found in the Philippine seas. Diving and snorkeling are favorite activities not only of tourists but also of people living along the coastal areas. The beautiful clams in Camiguin, the breathtaking corals in Palawan and Batangas, the whale sharks of Donsol… and you’ll find more around the archipelago.

The crater of Taal Volcano, the smallest volcano in the world.

3. The Magnificent Mountain Treks. Climb Mt. Apo or Mt. Pinatubo and you’ll find scenery that will take your breath away. Even the donkey ride or walk to the crater of the smallest volcano, Taal, is worth every climb. Situated in the ring of fire, the Philippines has several volcanoes, mountains, and hills that anyone can conquer.

4. The Sun and the Beaches. From up north to down south, the Philippines is full of glorious beaches that will provide you with a place to relax and enjoy the sun. It’s sunny all year round, except during monsoons, which also makes Filipinos have a happy and bright disposition.

5. Exotic Food. Every Filipino fellowship is never without food. There’s a rich variety of cuisine that differs from one province to another. It’s the diversity that brings a colorful blend to the Filipino palate. Whether it’s spicy, salty, or sweet, you will find that the Filipino menu is definitely unique.

Christmas lanterns and decors bring a joyous mood throughout the Philippines.

6. Colorful Festivals. Being the largest Catholic country in Asia, the Philippines seems to celebrate every saint there is. Towns, municipalities and cities have their own patron saint. From the Sinulog, Dinagyang and Ati-Atihan festivals in January to the long Christmas celebration in December, Filipinos show how to bring revelry and merriment to its fullest.

7. Rich history. Since the arrival of the Malay datus to the trade relations of the Chinese to the colonization of the Spaniards to the occupation of the Japanese to the influence of the Americans, the Philippines has evolved and embraced the various cultures it has come in contact with throughout history. There are benefits and some detriment. Yet, it’s this colorful mix that has given life to what the Philippines now has become. More so, it continues its journey to the future.

In the meantime, enjoy the present. Visit our country because it’s more fun in the Philippines.
