Dublin-shot horror drama series Penny Dreadful has been renewed for a third season.

The successful Showtime series, which stars Eva Green and Josh Hartnett, is currently nearing the end of its second series on July 5.

Showtime has commissioned nine episodes which will begin production in the capital city in the autumn and the series will be broadcast next year.

“John Logan’s brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fanbase into the meticulously crafted world of ‘Penny Dreadful,'” said Showtime Networks president David Nevins.

“Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we’re excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for season three.”

The series also stars Timothy Dalton and Irish actress Sarah Greene.
