US Edition The Radio Times has launched a poll to find the country's most popular film quote.
The TV listings magazine has compiled a shortlist of 50 quotes selected by its staff, which includes Sean Connery's immortalised introduction from Dr No ("Bond. James Bond"), Marlon Brando's most persuasive line from The Godfather ("I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse"), and Julia Roberts's romantic plea to Hugh Grant in Notting Hill ("I'm also just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her").
Introducing the shortlist, Barry Norman, the broadcaster and film critic, said: “For me the power of words in films is just as great as that of visual images and helps to stamp the movie in my memory. And certain lines have a potent effect on me, however many times I hear them. For instance, I have to confess that Jenny Agutter’s 'Daddy! My Daddy!' at the end of The Railway Children always brings a tear to my eyes. Sometimes the best lines from the movies go into the language in the sense that we use them — misquoted or not — in everyday conversation, often without even remembering where they came from.”
