Mold Reportedly At Drum Point Elementary

Drum Point Elementary School has become the latest in the school district that will need mold remediation, school officials said at their regular meeting held Thursday.

Superintendent Walter Uszenski said during his report this evening that school officials are "putting a plan in place" for cleanup, which will likely take place in the coming weekends. He said the mold is now dormant, but urged the district to take action to address heating and cooling systems in the schools.

"We had high humidity throughout the summer," which likely exacerbated the issue in the district, Uszenski said.

So far, remediation efforts have totaled about $400,000 for the district.

Remediation was also required at the township’s Educational Enrichment Center, which prompted school officials to move several students to the Primary Learning Center at the beginning of the school year.

Uszenski said in early September that even though the mold at the EEC is nontoxic, he said for children who have asthma or respiratory problems, "it is not healthy to breathe in."
