Could this gadget have been the brainchild of selfie queen Kim Kardashian and her musician husband Kanye West? Wireless speaker maker Divoom is releasing the second-generation of its Bluetooth speaker line, the Bluetune-Bean, which is now equipped with a selfie remote shutter to help you take hands-free photos. Genius or absurd – we’ll let you make that call.
Divoom has an extensive product line of wireless speakers, from its rugged Voombox to its waterproof Airbeat. But the Bluetune-Bean is the first to include a selfie remote shutter button on the side of the speaker to facilitate capturing the perfect self-portrait moment. Users can take photos from up to 30 feet away, which, unlike a selfie stick, lets you get the entire background in the frame – provided you have a place to set your phone down.
Like most new portable speakers, the Bluetune-Bean uses Bluetooth 3.0 to stream music, for up to six hours. The Bluetune-Bean comes with a built-in microphone and can be used as a speakerphone, so you can take calls in the middle of your jam. Of course, it’s the shutter button that makes it different. The shutter feature is compatible with devices running iOS 6.0 or Android 4.2.2 (and higher), but it may be incompatible with some Android models “due to the open-source design,” according to the official Divoom website.
Consistent with Divoom’s product history, the Bluetune-Bean speaker was designed for capturing your outdoorsy adventures with a metal carabiner positioned atop the speaker, allowing it to clip on to your backpack.
The Bluetune-Bean comes in four color combinations: blue and silver, red and black, white and purple, or black and green. It’s available on Amazon for $24.
