Have you noticed your Facebook photos changing?

A new Facebook feature automatically edits your photographs and applies filters when they are uploaded, as elements of Instagram - which it bought in 2012 - are integrated

Facebook’s iOS app now adds a little Instagram magic to images automatically when they are uploaded, changing the contrast and applying a filter to make the images more appealing.

The social network spent $1bn (£640m) buying Instagram in 2012 and the effects features are now being increasingly merged into Facebook.

When a user selects a photograph to upload it will now be automatically adjusted and a small “magic wand” icon will be illuminated in the bottom-left to indicate the changes. Tapping that icon will undo any changes, or a slider can be adjusted to make the changes more or less severe.

There is also a crop icon in the bottom-right of the image which allows users to select just part of the image to upload. From this screen they will also be able to select different effects filters to apply to the image.

This week Instagram launched five new filters - the first to be added in two years - designed to take advantage of higher image quality, the company said.

“A lot has happened in the last two years,” said the company in a blog post. “Photography trends have evolved, and the capabilities of the camera on your phone have vastly improved. We’ve seen tremendous creativity within the community, not only in the moments they share, but in the time spent carefully composing and editing photos and videos to bring out emotions and make them beautiful.”
